Lara Jean Covey's little sister is finally getting the spotlight.

Fans of the To All The Boys film franchise were thrilled when Netflix announced plans to produce a spinoff series. But that was two years ago—an eternity! At last, after a long wait, XO, Kitty is about to arrive.

As you may recall, Kitty's the reason Lara Jean got together with Peter Kavinsky in the first place—she's the one who sent out her big sister's love letters at the start of the franchise. As such, it only makes sense that Kitty get her own storyline. The series will see the youngest Covey sister making a major decision to leave her home in Oregon to explore her ancestral roots in Seoul.

As the show's co-showrunner Sasha Rothchild puts it, "She’s stepping into the fore—picking up the baton from Lara Jean."

Here is everything we know about XO, Kitty so far.

When is the XO, Kitty release date?

Netflix will begin streaming episodes of XO, Kitty on May 18, 2023. Season 1 will have 10 episodes that are 30 minutes each. All 10 episodes will be available to stream when the show is released.

What is XO, Kitty about?

XO, Kitty is a spinoff of the wildly popular To All The Boys franchise. The story picks up at the conclusion of the three movies and tells the story of Lara Jean Covey's little sister, Kitty.

The show opens with 16-year-old Kitty leaving Portland, Oregon, to spend her junior year in Seoul, South Korea, where she'll see her boyfriend, Dae, and attend her late mother's alma mater, the Korean Independent School of Seoul (KISS).

Series creator and co-showrunner Jenny Han explains that moving the show to Seoul was a deliberate decision. "XO, Kitty really is Kitty’s story and that’s part of the reason why I really wanted to set this story in a different place," she told Netflix's Tudum.

"If you see the Covey house that we all know and love and their high school in Portland, you’d probably just be thinking, ‘Oh, what’s Lara Jean up to?’"

Is there a trailer for XO, Kitty?

Netflix released the teaser trailer for XO, Kitty on March 23, 2023.

Do you need to watch To All The Boys to watch XO, Kitty?

Despite the fact that the new series is a spinoff, you don't actually have to know much about To All The Boys to enjoy it. As Han puts it, "XO, Kitty is definitely its own thing. You could enter into this story just starting with XO, Kitty and be on Kitty’s journey as if you’re meeting her for the first time.

"She’s the big fish in a small pond," Han continues. "She thinks she knows it all in Portland. Then she has a rude awakening when she’s put in a new place like Seoul. That’s very relatable and universal."

Who is in the XO, Kitty cast?

XO, Kitty will feature a few familiar faces from the To All The Boys universe as well as several knew ones. The cast includes:

When Cathcart started playing the youngest sister in the Covey household, she had no idea how much the role would change her life. "I had just turned 14 and at the time I was auditioning for a one-off little romance movie (that I absolutely loved)," Cathcart told Tudum in February 2023.

"I was ecstatic, but so unaware of the incredible universe that I was about to enter." Look at her now!

Notably, Lana Condor and Noah Centineo will not be in the new series. "We all fell so deeply in love with Lara Jean and her story," Han explains. "So it felt like the greatest gift to give to Kitty was to let her as a character kind of set off on her own two feet and not put her in the shadow of either of her sisters." Fair enough!
