Microsoft’s extended refund policy for Cyberpunk 2077 is coming to an end on July 6th. On that date, the “no questions asked” policy reverts to the standard policy, meaning you’ll need to provide a good reason for your return. The changes will impact all Cyberpunk 2077 purchases for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S through the Microsoft Store.

The refund policy announcement comes hot on the heels of Cyberpunk 2077‘s return to the PlayStation Store. CD Projekt Red’s latest game has received several big updates in the months following launch, and it seems both Sony and Microsoft finally deem it a worthy addition to their online catalog.

“The team at CD Projekt Red continues to work hard to improve the experience of Cyberpunk 2077 for Xbox players and has made a number of updates,” Microsoft’s announcement reads. “Given these updates, Microsoft will be returning to our standard digital game refund policy for Cyberpunk 2077 on July 6th for both new and existing purchases.”

Just because Cyberpunk 2077 is finally eligible for Microsoft’s typical refund policy doesn’t mean it’s a completely bug-free experience. On the contrary, the Microsoft Store page for the game explicitly states, “Users may experience performance issues when playing this game on Xbox.” It’s unclear if that verbiage will disappear from the storefront on July 6th, but at least Microsoft seems to be keeping a close eye on Cyberpunk 2077‘s performance across all its consoles and alerting consumers to any possible issues before purchase.

How to Get a Refund on Cyberpunk 2077

If you’re one of the thousands of players still struggling to run around Night City, here’s how you can apply for a Cyberpunk 2077 refund on Xbox:

  • Head over to the Xbox Support website.

  • Sign in to your account.

  • Select Cyberpunk 2077 from the list of recent purchases and click “Request a Refund.”

Keep in mind this only applies to purchases directly through Microsoft – if you picked up Cyberpunk 2077 for Xbox through Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop or another retailer, you’ll need to deal with them directly.

What is the New Cyberpunk 2077 Refund Policy?

Starting July 6th, the standard Xbox refund policy will apply to Cyberpunk 2077. That means not all refund requests will be approved, and you typically only have 14 days after your purchase to make the request. Once that time passes, the chances of you getting your money back are slim to none.

If you’re not happy with the state of Cyberpunk 2077 and purchased through Microsoft, now is the time to get your money back.

Is Cyberpunk 2077 Even Worth Playing?

Poor performance while playing Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t exclusive to Microsoft’s console, as the base PS4 is also having significant trouble with the game – despite its recent return to the PS Store. Because of this, it’s hard to recommend the game to anyone playing on either the original Xbox One or PlayStation 4.

Things are a bit better on Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro, but the best way to experience the game is still on PC. Xbox Series X and PS5 are close to emulating the impressive PC performance, but there’s no denying Cyberpunk 2077 is a better game on PC than console.

Still, if you’ve managed to pick up a next-gen system or have a high-powered PC, Cyberpunk 2077 is a much better game today than it was at launch. CD Projekt Red is committed to improving its performance, and it should continue to see updates throughout the rest of the year. Anyone interested in a massive open-world experience with a sprawling narrative will probably find a lot to love with Cyberpunk 2077 – even if there are a few bugs along the way.
