Matt Terry was crowned the winner of last year's X Factor - the show's thirteenth series - with his single "When Christmas Comes Around" managing to peak at third in the charts.

He took the crown from Louisa Johnson, who stayed in the charts for just three weeks after a lacklustre series 12.

They follow the seemingly dwindling success of X Factor winners, considering the duration and position of each series winner in the UK's Singles Chart.

Matt Terry and Louisa Johnson are the only two winners to not make it to number one.

X Factor winners: Time at the top UK singles chart

In terms of the winning single's popularity, Shane Ward is the most successful X Factor winner to date. He lasted 23 weeks in the UK Singles Chart after winning the second series of X Factor with "That's My Goal", including four weeks at number one.

James Arthur claimed three weeks at number one and a total of 19 weeks in the top 100 with "Impossible" in 2012, while both Alexandra Burke and Ben Haenow achieved 14 weeks in the Singles Chart.

Matt Terry joins last series' winner, Louisa Johnson, as the only two winners failing to get to number one with their winning songs.

Last year's show, series 13, saw the return of original judges Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne. They joined Simon Cowell and Nicole Scherzinger on the judging panel.

X Factor judge winners

Cowell is so far the most successful judge on X Factor, winning three series of his own competition.

Cheryl Cole, Dannii Minogue and Nicole Sherzinger - the coach of the 2016's winner, Matt Terry - have each won the competition twice.

The boys category has won the competition five times, while the over 25s group has won it three times.
