Here's What You Should Write in That Wedding CardGetty | Margie Rischiotto

It truly feels like 2023 is the year of all the weddings. So many, in fact, that you might start to forget the details of 1) which wedding is when and where, 2) what you planned to wear, and 3) which Hinge match you put down as your plus-one. Once you get to the part where you're supposed to fill out the card and stuff it with cold hard cash, you're probably thinking, "What TF do I possibly write in this card to accompany this modest chunk of my savings??"

For a lifelong BFF's big day, you’ll have absolutely no problem writing a novel of a card (TBH, I usually just get one that’s blank inside if we go way back), but if it's your S.O.’s coworker that you barely know tying the knot, keep on reading for creative ways to take your well wishes up a notch. And because no wedding card fits all, there's also plenty of inspo for how to properly welcome your new cousin or SIL with a thoughtful, heartfelt message. No cheesy greeting cards here, I promise.

And if I may ~humble brag~, you should know that I’m the person who's usually tasked with writing out handwritten notes and making speeches at family weddings and funerals. That's why I've blessed you with a writer’s input on what to scribble in a wedding card. Take it or leave it, friends.

Oh, and pro tip: Fill out the card and stick it in the clutch you plan to carry the night *before* the big day. Because let's be honest—you'll forget it at home otherwise.

For the person who asked you to be in their wedding party...

  • Thank you for inviting me to be such an important part of your special day! And also for picking such an incredible color for us to wear.

  • I knew ________was the one for you when they... (insert romantic/sweet/hilarious story here).

  • It's such an honor to stand by your side today. I'll be needing tissues at some point, just a heads up.

  • Being your bridesmaid today is a joy! Being your friend for the past (insert years) is even more priceless.

  • I'm just a girl, standing up on the altar, crying all of the happy tears while I hold your bouquet. My BFF is getting married!!!

  • Going to down a minimum of three glasses of champagne before my MOH speech tonight. You're the only person I'd do public speaking for. I love you more than anything!

  • You are the most beautiful bride, inside and out, and we're all fully ready to make this the best.day.ever. for you!

  • To the most gorge bride: Your whole crew loves you and we can't wait to stand next to you on your big day.

  • Prepare for the perfect MOH speech tonight, and know that I apologize in advance...

  • Happy wedding day to the *only* person I will wear Spanx and chiffon for...

  • Hey, I just feel lucky to be included. Cheers to you bestie. Wishing you nothing less than a lifetime of joy.

  • Thank you for booking me a front-row seat to today’s lovefest. I couldn’t be happier for you, and I cannot wait to sit back and watch your union continue to flourish.

  • If you see me crying in the background of any wedding party pics, you have my full permission to edit me out. True love just makes me emotional. Love you!

  • I’m so happy we finally get to live out the day we dreamed of together for so long. And I’m even happier to be right by your side through it all.

  • To our wedding party’s fearless leader…I hope the married life treats you well.

  • Hi, hello remember me? Your other soulmate? I’m overjoyed to celebrate your special day.

  • If you trip down the aisle, I’ll be there to catch you. But like, please try not to do that.

  • I promise I didn’t only show up for the open bar. I also love you very deeply. But the open bar is nice.

  • There’s no one I’d rather be a supporting character for today. May your nuptials be beyond blessed!

  • Girl, this is just the beginning, and I’ll be there for you through it all. Happy wedding day <3

For the wedding of an old friend...

  • We've come a long way from slipping love notes into lockers. I can't wait to see you get married!

  • Something old: our friendship. Something new: you tying the knot!!! Something borrowed: your gift, from the ATM. Something blue: me, when I can't take you as my plus-one to weddings anymore. Today's the day, and I'm so happy for you.

  • PB & J. J.Lo & Ben. You & me. And now you two! You're the most perfect pair, and I couldn't be more excited for you to start your life together.

  • I didn't believe love existed (okay, call me cynical) until I saw you two together. Thank you for melting this icy lil heart of mine:').

  • No matter where we go, who we're with, or what happens in life, we'll always be friends, and you can count on my support.

  • So, I guess the marriage pact we made in eighth grade didn't hold up?! JK, you definitely made the best choice. Thrilled for you both!

  • I remember the days when we were only playing wedding dress-up (somehow I was always the groom). And now it's the real thing! Let's get you married.

  • If our middle school selves could see us now...

  • TBH, I'm just glad our M.A.S.H. predictions didn't come true and you're not marrying your middle school BF. See? It all really did work out in the end...

  • You've been planning for this day as long as we've been friends (which is...a long time). I couldn't be happier to stand by your side today. Congrats!

  • We used to pray for times like this! Congratulations, dear, cherish every moment!

  • I’m officially feeling very old, and also very honored to witness your happy day. I am wishing you a lifetime of love.

  • Can time, like, stop going so fast? Just yesterday we were fantasizing about big moments like these. I’m so happy for you friend. Grateful to witness your love.

  • We finally get to witness your own fairytale, and I couldn’t be happier.

  • This is all I could’ve ever wanted for you. Wishing you years upon years of unconditional love, my friend.

  • Your dress pick is *way* cuter than the one we had on our mood board back in the day.

  • One day we’re wreaking havoc in the sandbox, and the next you’re walking down the aisle. Where the hell does the time go?

  • I love going through this life with you, and watching you find true love has been a real joy.

  • As a wedding present, I won’t show your partner *too* many pics of you in your awkward middle school days.

  • Wow...“wife” just sounds so grown up…

For a family wedding...

  • I've never had a sister, but I couldn't be happier to get one today. And thankfully we got to skip the whole sharing-a-room-and-borrowing-each-other's-clothes part.
