Royals from around the world gathered Tuesday in England to remember King Constantine of Greece.
The Thanksgiving service for King Constantine of the Hellenes took place this morning at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.
Representing the British royal family were Queen Camilla, Prince Andrew, Sarah Ferguson, Zara Tindall, Mike Tindall, Princess Anne, Princess Beatrice, and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. Other U.K. royals in attendance included the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.
King Charles III and Prince William did not attend. The king is undergoing cancer treatment, and therefore declining most public engagements. William pulled out of the event at the last minute due to a personal matter; no more information on the subject has been disclosed.
Representing Spain were King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, as well as Infanta Elena, Duchess of Lugo; Infanta Cristina; and Juan Valentin Urdangarín.
And, of course, representing Greece were several members of the country's royal family. The group included Queen Anne Marie of Greece; Pavlos, Crown Prince of Greece and Prince of Denmark RE; and Marie-Chantal, Crown Princess of Greece and Princess of Denmark; Princess Maria-Olympia of Greece and Denmark; Princess Nina of Greece and Denmark; Prince Philippos of Greece and Denmark; Princess Theodora of Greece and Denmark; and Matthew Jeremiah Kumar.
The late King Constantine II, head of the royal house of Greece, reigned as the last King of the Hellenes, from March 6, 1964 to June 1, 1973, when monarchy was abolished in the country. He died on January 10, 2023, in Athens, at age 82. The Greek royal family holds symbolic positions and is no longer actively reigning.
