Is the World Ready for the Property Brothers to Launch Film Careers? Because They Are

The two are already sitting on a few screenplays—including one that they describe as a mash-up of *Hitch* and *The Hangover.*

In the pantheon of home-improvement hunks, Drew and Jonathan Scott rank pretty high. Sure, reality renovation shows usually feature a dreamy carpenter or two—but these two have turned their franchise into a national phenomenon, joining other HGTV shows to make the network America’s favorite comfort food in these tumultuous times. But as Drew and Jonathan help naïve home buyers transform dilapidated, occasionally vermin-infested old houses into the well-appointed, open-concept—always open concept—homes of their dreams, they have secretly harbored higher aspirations of their own: namely, getting their names in lights. Or, at the very least, a movie deal.

According to The New York Times, the two are already sitting on a few screenplays—including one typed up on an old typewriter by their very own father, Jim Scott. Per the Times, the Property patriarch, who worked for a time as a director’s assistant on Hollywood film sets near Vancouver, shared a movie idea with his sons: “a film in which a cowboy is unjustly sent to prison and struggles to adapt to a changed world upon his release.”

“His sons gave him a deadline,” the Times continues, “and he wrote the screenplay on a typewriter. They say they plan to produce the film one day.”

There is something appealing about envisioning the Brothers Property sitting across from a Hollywood executive, sipping seltzer and saying, “Look, you have to see this script for what it could be—it has great bones.” But make no mistake: Drew and Scott are not just resting on their laurels, letting Poppa Property do all the back-breaking scribe work. They’ve also hatched a few scripts of their own: “Together, the brothers have also written two screenplays, which they plan to produce (in addition to their father’s cowboy picture),” the Times reports.

According to Jonathan, the first is “a dark comedy that follows the life of a professional ‘hook-up’ artist as he discovers his own loneliness through the romantic misery of others—it’s kind of like Hitch meets The Hangover.” And the other? It centers on “a band of brothers who come from a small-town upbringing with wholesome values.” Dust off your overalls, Pratt, Pine, Hemsworth, and Evans—this one sounds ripe for a Hollywood Chris. (The Times notes that although Drew once envisioned himself and Jonathan as the projects’ stars, “what he really wants to do is direct.”)

Truth be told, this isn’t Jonathan and Drew’s first shot at a life beyond HGTV’s white-picket fence. They’ve also dabbled in the music business, dropping original country songs and covering Flo Rida under the country duo moniker “The Scott Brothers.”

But now, as the duo starts penning their pitches to studio executives, there’s but one question left to answer: Will they go by Drew and Jonathan Scott, or make like the Coens and Wachowskis and continue to market themselves as a pair?
