Earlier this month, a new cannabis brand opened up its flagship store in the Annex neighborhood of Toronto—but this is hardly your run-of-the-mill dispensary. Edition, a high-concept cannabis purveyor, partnered with architects Jennifer Kudlats and Andrew Hill of StudioAC in designing this contemporary space. Kudlats and Hill took a sophisticated, yet minimalist, approach for the store, which aims to offer high-quality service for its customers.

“It’s been an amazing collaboration with the team at StudioAC,” Edition CEO and founder Ryan Roebuck said in a release. “Jennifer and Andrew presented us with the design concept, and they entrusted us to fill in the blanks with them. Every single detail in the space was collaborative and made with intention. We didn’t just pick out some fancy marble and wood on a mood board. We wanted to build spaces that would evoke a feeling of intrigue and ‘wow,’ using high design to create unrivaled experiences in cannabis.”

The concept for a luxury dispensary came about when Roebuck and his business partner Dennis Bennie saw a void in the cannabis community. “Cannabis stores should reflect the incredible retail experiences that already exist in our lives and not be subpar or intimidating,” Roebuck says. “Edition is breaking the stigma of cannabis retail through design, quality, and impeccable service.”

Edition teams up with local producers and manufacturers, aiming to bring consumers top-notch products, from vapes to edibles and everything in between. The brand plans to eventually launch “The Edit”—a series of exclusive collaborations with notable designers across the worlds of fashion, culture, art, and design—and intends to open two additional retail locations in the first quarter of 2021.
