Lotte Kopecky, 27, (SD Worx) celebrated an incredible year with a “fan day” in Belgium this weekend. The goal was to mark her achievements at the World Championships and the Tour de France Femmes, but also to encourage more people—especially women and girls—to get on bikes.

Cycling culture is strong in Belgium, so the fans were ready to celebrate Kopecky’s series of successes. This year, she won the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, the Tour of Flanders, and took second at the Tour de France Femmes. She then went on to win the UCI Road World Championships.

And in Belgium, what better way to celebrate cycling than with a cycle-powered beer bus? As soon as Kopecky caught sight of the beer bus full of fans cheering for her, pedaling along, drinking beer, she ran over. There was an empty stool so she hopped on, grabbed a beer, posed for photos, and enjoyed the scene.

According to GCN, the day was organized by her team sponsor, SD Worx, Cycling Vlaanderen, and the Flemish Cycling School. The celebration included a group ride with young cyclists, a presentation honoring Kopecky, and a meet and greet.

“With the initiative, the three parties and Lotte Kopecky hope to inspire young girls to also start cycling. Because a higher intake ensures sustainable growth of women’s cycling in the long term,” Team SD Worx said.

Before the event, GCN reported that Kopecky’s success had already sparked a profound effect on young cyclists in Belgium and beyond. “Belgium is a great cycling nation, but the women always limped along behind…I hope I made everyone proud. And that I have been able to inspire a lot of young girls,” Kopecky said.

As everyone on the beer bus chanted her name, kept pedaling, and celebrated their local champion, Kopecky could be sure that she had indeed made them proud. To quote the popular social media hashtag: #lotteforpresident
