Woody Harrelson Might Have a Secret Role in Venom

Tom Hardy’s Spider-Man spinoff is sounding weirder and weirder.

It's hard to believe Tom Hardy actually signed up for a Venom movie, actually filmed it alongside a cast featuring Riz Ahmed and Michelle Williams, and actually [promoted it in a ridiculous video live from the set, but here we are. This film is happening, and in case you missed it, here's the trailer, in which Tom Hardy tries A Voice.

Now things are getting even weirder.

Today word has it that Woody Harrelson is secretly in the movie, which has wrapped and is now winging its way to its October 5 release date. Not only that, but the rumor is Harrelson is playing the famous villain Carnage.

It's been long rumored Carnage would show up in a Spider-Man movie at some point. Venom, brutal though he is, has been treated as more of an anti-hero in the modern canon. Carnage, as the name suggests, is a much simpler brand of evil symbiote, which attaches itself to a much less conflicted man than Eddie Brock: Cletus Kasady—a deranged serial killer.

The apparent casting of Harrelson suggests a more thoughtful take on Kasady. Even in his meanest roles, Harrelson brings a soft-spoken nuance to his characters. His turn as the villain in last year's War for the Planet of the Apes is a seriously underrated piece of work, and shows he has the chops to bring a level of sophistication to even the most ill-intentioned character.

Stay tuned on whether this is legit or complete bunk. Either way, this is going to be one...interesting movie.
