Woodford Reserve's New Limited Release Blends Four Good Whiskeys Into a Great One

Since joining Woodford Reserve in 2009, Elizabeth McCall has pushed the brand’s boundaries and helped mastermind releases such as last year’s Honey Barrel Finish and Toasted Oak Oat Grain. In February, McCall took the reins of the Kentucky-based distillery after the brand named her its new master distiller. Now, it's finally time for McCall’s name to appear on a bottle. And not just any bottle—a new release from Woodford Reserve's famed Distillery Series: Toasted Oak Four Grain.

Toasted Oak Four Gain is a blend of Woodford Reserve’s bourbon, rye, wheat, and malt whiskeys. After aging in a standard new oak barrel, its finished in heavily toasted new oak barrels.

The result is a whiskey with a beautiful baked pecan color. On the nose, it offers sweet aromas of marzipan, honeycomb, brown sugar, and butterscotch, rounded out by a touch of toasted oak. The palate delivers more toasted oak alongside touches of maple syrup, butterscotch, and wood spice. The finish is crisp and subtly sweet.

“Experimenting and creating new products is one of the most exciting parts of my job, allowing us to explore new flavors. This is the first of many special releases we have planned in the coming years,” says McCall.

McCall is the third Master Distiller in the bourbon brand’s 26-year history, succeeding Chris Morris, who will assume the role of Master Distiller Emeritus.

Bottled at 90.4 Proof, Woodford Reserve Toasted Oak Four Grain is available in 375ml bottles for an SRP of $60.
