With Kamala Harris set to be sworn in as Vice President of the United States in a few short days, it's high time to ensure that everyone knows how to correctly pronounce her name.

The politician's surname, "Harris," is simple enough, of course (like hair-iss, if there was any doubt), but sometimes citizens get tripped up on "Kamala." Back in 2016, during her senate campaign, Harris made a helpful video explaining exactly how to say her name. It features some very cute children laying out how to—and how not to—say Kamala. Check it out below.

Americans have had plenty of time to get accustomed to the proper pronunciation, between Harris's years in the Senate, recent presidential primary campaign, and run in the general election as Joe Biden's running mate. But after she was named Vice President-elect in November, it became even more imperative that everyone learn to get "Kamala" right.

In a recent interview with Vogue, Harris opened up about the challenges that await her after Inauguration Day. “At the risk of oversimplifying it, you don’t meet hate with hate,” Harris said of Trump's months-long attempt to undermine the election with baseless accusations of fraud (the interview took place prior to the insurrection at the Capitol). “You don’t meet one line of division with another line of division. We believe that the vast majority of American people don’t agree with that approach, don’t accept it, and don’t like it.”

She later added, “We can agree that we have more in common than what separates us. And agree that it’s not in the best interest of who we are as a nation to have any one group suffer for who they are.”
