Women’s Sneaker Retailer Naked Copenhagen Opens in Paris

Denmark-based women’s sneaker retailer Naked Copenhagen opened its first store in Paris this week – ironically during men’s fashion week.

Located at 38 rue Sainte-Croix de la Bretonnerie in the historic Le Marais district, the new 3,200 sq.-ft. store features sneakers from a selection of Naked’s brand partners including Nike, Adidas, New Balance, Salomon, Jordan Brand, Asics, Timberland and more.

Aside from these major footwear players, consumers will also be able to find pieces from global designers like Martine Rose, Porter Yoshida & Co and Aries. Plus, the Parisian community will enjoy special access to exclusive Scandinavian brands like OpéraSport, Kernemilk, Oval Square, and Niko June.

Designed in in partnership with Alpine Office and architect Daniel Kutlesovski, Naked’s newest store maintains the building’s historic, carved exterior while re-energizing its look in a wash of soft-buttery yellow paint. A seamless blend of Scandinavian and French architectural expression, the interior has been realized with premium terrazzo tiles and matching sculpted seating, while blue podiums are juxtaposed against angular aluminum mounts and brushed paneling along the walls.

“Since opening our doors in 2004, Paris has always been a dream for us,” Stine Pedersen, co-founder and CEO of Naked Copenhagen, said in a statement. “To see it come into reality is not just a business target, but a personal milestone, one that for me, affirms the continued need to create spaces for women to come together and inspire each other.”

In its twentieth year in business, Naked Copenhagen has been the go-to destination for exclusive sneakers for women in-person in Denmark and online globally. The retailer’s new Paris store marks the third brick-and-mortar location for the company. Naked also has stores in Copenhagen and Aarhus in Denmark.

According to the company, this opening marks a “new chapter” as it works to “continue to represent” the growing voice of women in the sneaker industry. “This is an opportunity we will take to empower and inspire our community while ensuring we carve out a space for those historically forgotten,” the company said in a release about the new store.

Acquired by the Courir Group in 2021, which was then purchased by JD Sports in 2023, Naked Copenhagen conducts 80 percent of its global sales—although specific figures are undisclosed—through its online platform. The French version of its e-shop was launched in 2022.

This is the second footwear store to open in the Marais district this week. On Monday, Paris-based independent footwear brand Both opened its first European store at 6 rue de la Corderie.
