26 Features That Women Wish They Could Add To Their Clothing, From More Pockets To Standardized Sizing

Buying women's clothing can quickly spiral from "retail therapy" to "despair in the dressing room," what with a total lack of size consistency across brands, high prices for inexpensive materials, and the always dreaded gap between shirt buttons. So there were plenty of impassioned responses when redditor u/Big_Concentrate_7267 asked r/AskWomen, "What is something you want in women's clothing that doesn't exist or rarely does?" Here are 26 of their pitches for a brighter future in women's fashion.

Responses have been edited for length and/or clarity.

1."Bathing suits that DON’T have those shitty built-in foam cups that aren’t removable."

—LilacPenny

2."Cool clothes for plus-size and mid-size women. I'm so tired of most of what's available for us looking like oversized toddler clothes. I want to look cool and sleek, not like I've stepped into a 2010 Hot Topic or like I'm someone's child or grandma. So many brands that get recommended over and over for bigger women just make ass-ugly clothes."

3."Honestly? Bras that have different sized cups for each breast. Not all women have the same size on each side and it’s so difficult to fit them right. I have seen some options online, but they are hard to fit right with an online guide."

Heavy-hiker

4."Black leggings that are thick, high quality, and NOT SHEER. Why do they make leggings sheer? I don’t know."

—Extra_Inspection_457

5."Like, more fabric. So much more that you can form little bags in your clothes and put things in them. I would call them 'pockets.' Man, I'd get rich with this BRAND NEW IDEA."

sachette-dreseag

6."A white shirt that isn't made of gossamer. Or a plain black shirt that isn't super thin/low cut/stupidly designed. Had to wear black shirts for my old job and only ever found something I could wear in the men's section."

—Junior-Hornet-5037

7."A sizing system that takes in account the length of the torso. Some women have a super long torso and some women have a super short one, resulting in a completely different fit of the dress, even if they are the same size."

punkhummus

8."High quality women’s Oxford shoes! I ADORE them, but tracking down a well-made pair is quite the feat."

—_megantron_

9."Petite clothes that are actually made for petite people. Half the time, the models on the website are 5’6”, which is definitely not petite! Also, petite clothes for curvy women as well."

fatgoose52

10."Cute bralettes with an elastic band that doesn't destroy your underboob area."

—Emmazingx

11."Knee-high boots that actually fit around my calves. I played a lot of volleyball and my calves are just bigger. I always wear low shoes because I can never find ones that fit around my calves."

GirlSailor14

12."If all the stores can agree on sizing, that would be helpful."

—EBSD

13."Men’s jean sizes. Why in god's name do women’s jeans not have an inseam size chart? At this point, clothing brands should be aware not every woman is 5’4"."

AvocadoBitter7385

14."Jorts or cargo shorts that come down to the knee, like the baggy skater boy style. And graphic shirts I actually want to wear that don’t just say some crumby quote like 'Living Everyday' or 'I’m Not Mean, Just Honest.'"

Radio-Rabbit

15."SKIRTS/BODY CON DRESSES THAT DON'T RIDE UP WHEN YOU WALK."

—curly-hair07

16."Backless and strapless tops and dresses where the cups actually hold in the bigger-chested girls would be great. I want to wear those cute things as well."

MischievousPangolin

17."Comfortable hoodies. I love men’s clothing for how comfy their winter wear or loungewear really is. All I want is to drown in a true oversized hoodie and sweatpants, like the bean I was meant to be."

—SacredSages0

18."Shirts should have extra (inside/invisible) buttons around the chest to avoid any gaps."

Anxiety_Cookie

19."Thigh-high socks and stockings that are thick thigh friendly and actually stay up!!! Without that rubber tape lining that never works."

throwing-a-party

20."Often when I go to gigs, especially metal ones, there are no ladies' fit T-shirts, or there's only one and it's an ugly afterthought or a vest. I'd like more bands to have a ladies' version of their main tour shirt so I can buy cool merch without drowning my tiny body in extra fabric."

—vpetmad

21."Fitted T-shirts that cover half the ass. Not all of us want semi-crop tees."

ZombieBalloon

22."Less polyester and plastic. I feel like especially women's clothing is made out of so much crap material, or if it's made of wool or cotton, the lining is polyester. What the hell?! The most important part, the one that comes into contact with the skin, is freaking plastic. And online, a lot of times they don't mention the exact composition..."

23."These spring to mind: Bright colors all year round in clothes and shoes, standard dresses with longer waists so taller people can wear them too, and lace undies with no middle seam."

—Roots_Manuka

24."Cute T-shirts with actual sleeves instead of the almost cap sleeve thing. Who decided that women didn’t need a full sleeve (like almost to the elbow) on T-shirts?"

Outrageous-Proof4630

25."Multiple buttons across the waist so you can change the fit around the waist."

Omnivorous_Leaf

26.And finally: "My boyfriend always has inside pockets on his jacket and that seems really fun to me; my jackets never have fun pockets."
