For those of us who live in big cities like New York or Los Angeles, running into a celebrity on a seemingly insignificant day isn’t out of the ordinary — it’s pretty common, actually.

Emily Newton (@balancedfactor), a 23-year-old, Toronto-based podcast host, posted about the one time she ran into and even flirted with a Gossip Girl star.

“POV: you walk into chace from gossip girl at the bar and didn’t realize but say ‘hey you look familiar how do I know you’ and flirt with him for 10 mins and then realize afterwards why he was familiar,” she writes.

In less than two weeks since posting, Emily’s video has 841,600 views and 167,400 likes.

Chace Crawford, who famously portrayed Upper East Side hunk Nate Archibald on The CW’s Gossip Girl from 2007 to 2012, currently resides in Toronto, Canada, while filming Prime Video’s The Boys.

Emily posted a follow-up video revealing more details about her run-in with the Hollywood actor.

“Basically, I walk into the bar, and some guy bumps into me as I’m going to go check in my coat, and he’s like, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry… like my hands are full,’ and I’m like, ‘No problem.’ And as I’m walking away, I’m like, ‘Man, that guy looked really, really familiar. Like, I swear I’ve met him before. I should go like ask him,'” she explains. ‘So I go, and I tap him on the shoulder, and I’m like, ‘Have we met before? Like, I swear, you look so familiar.’ And he was like, ‘I don’t know. Maybe we have. You also look really familiar, too.'”

“…and she’s like, ‘Emily, that was literally Chace from Gossip Girl.”

Emily decides to “keep going with the conversation,” during which Chace hands her a drink.

“And so as the bar got super busy, they headed out. They did their own thing, and then I was with my friend group, and my friend comes over to me, and she was like, ‘Emily, do you know who you were just talking to?’ And I was like, ‘No, but he looked so familiar. Like, I swear I’ve met this man before.’ And she’s like, ‘Emily, that was literally Chace from Gossip Girl. Like, do you remember Nate?'”

“Obviously, I remember Nate,” Emily adds. “Like, how oblivious am I?”

Gossip Girl fans commended Emily for keeping her cool the way she did.

“Ok but iconic of you to just keep flirting no matter what,” someone responded.

“babe..fumbled. how are you after this?” another fan wrote.

“But did he flirt back,” one user asked.

Earlier this year, Chelsea Zeferina (@chelseazeferina) passed another famous face on the streets of New York City.

“The thing about living in New York is you’ll just be walking down the street having a casual day. You know, just like walking home from the store. And you’ll walk by someone, and you’ll be like, ‘Wow, that person looks familiar,'” she says. “And then you’ll realize it’s one of your favorite musicians of all time. And you’ll look them dead in the eye and just keep walking like nothing happened.”

“Anyway, I just walked by Phoebe Bridgers,” Chelsea reveals.

Kaite Hubler (@gingeraleprincess) was casually strolling around Central Park when she saw a familiar, famous face.

“On the same path but, like, in opposite directions. I was met with this guy who was like, I don’t know… early forties,” she says. “And I looked at him, and I was like, ‘I know him. I don’t know if he like works at my office or if he’s one of my friend’s dads, but I have surely met this man before.'”

“…I looked at him, and I went, ‘Good seeing ya.'”

While awkwardly passing the man on the path, Kaite felt the need to say something to him.

“I have to say something because it would be so rude not to,” she says. “So as we were doing that I looked at him, and I went, ‘Good seeing ya.'”

“It was Oscar Isaac,” she realizes.

“timothee chalamet watched me spill a venti caramel macchiato down my shirt after slipping ice”

Commenters on Kaite’s video shared their own awkward celebrity encounters.

“I did this exact thing once to Steve Carell walking on the beach path between Venice and Santa Monica,” one user replied.

“I did something similar, but it was Paul Rudd,” another said.

“timothee chalamet watched me spill a venti caramel macchiato down my shirt after slipping ice,” someone wrote.

While these situations definitely sound a bit awkward or, in Emily’s case, like a missed opportunity, at least these creators have a good story to tell!
