Woman who went viral in 2022 asking to identify a cute coffee shop guy shares major update: 'I'm so invested'

Get ready for the modern-day love story — because it’s boy meets girl, social media version.

In 2022, Sophia Hosking (@yungoatmilk) went viral after posting a TikTok asking the internet to help her identify a cute guy who frequented the coffee shop she worked at. And thanks to a recent update, her followers finally have the answer to if she found her mystery man.

In the original video, Hosking asked for help identifying a coffee shop customer she was crushing on.

“Anyone know this guy?” her video text read. “He always comes into my work, and I think he’s cute. I want to shoot my shot.”

Hosking filmed herself making the guy a drink with latte art that read “UR CUTE” and hand-delivered it to his table. The mystery man took a picture of the coffee, and Hosking ended the video promising to give her followers an update.

And over 14,000 comments later, it seems the people wanted to know what happened next.

“Omg im so invested,” said @crippled_is.hot.

“Modern day Romeo and Juliet,” @linhasiamylei.

It’s not entirely clear how much of a role the internet played in bringing Hosking and her love interest together, but exactly one year later, Hosking posted an update about her relationship. She revealed that not only did she finally find out her mystery man’s identity, but they have also been dating since her original video — for the entire year.

In her follow-up video, she talked about how often she travels to London via train to be with him.

“I hope you all find the confidence to go after what you want,” she posted in her video.

The comment section quickly exploded with well-wishes and comments from people who just love a happy ending.

“STAAAAAPH IT!” said @jlv1522. “This is wonderful! The update I didn’t know I needed.”

“Omggg thank u for the update,” added @projectfullyalive. “This truly warmed my heart. Rooting for u guysss.”

Hosking may have met a potential love interest in person, but using technology to help foster a romantic connection seems to be more the norm these days, according to a 2019 study that examined trends in how couples meet.

The days of meeting through friends or other third-party persons are dwindling. High school sweethearts are pretty much non-existent, and as the study concluded: “Internet meeting is displacing the roles that family and friends once played in bringing couples together.”
