Woman uses app to find help after getting stuck on icy mountainside: ‘Weird, but actually genius’
A woman found a new use for the popular dating app Tinder after extreme weather caused her camper to get stuck on the side of a mountain in northern Norway.
Lonia Häger was traveling to Lofoten after visiting the North Cape, the most northern point of Europe. But according to her Instagram post, while she and her friend, Phil, traveled down the mountainside, "it started raining...the street iced up that we even couldn’t stay on one point!"
Feeling "helpless against Mother Nature," the pair realized that they were stuck and were concerned that another vehicle could come down the mountain and crash into them or that their camper might slide off the mountainside into the ocean below.
“Phil had the weird but actually genius idea to create a tinder account with me and this fluffy cutie,” Häger wrote in her follow up post.
The two created a Tinder account for Häger and within five minutes she matched with Stian Lauluten, who lived nearby and had a bulldozer. Five minutes after they connected, Lauluten was on his way to rescue them.
Lauluten "shaped lines in the ice" for the camper to travel through and then took them to a nearby parking lot.
The next day, Lauluten helped them fix their tires with spikes to prevent future similar incidents. Häger calls him a hero.
Lauluten responded to the Instagram saying: "I'm glad I could help you guys! Have a nice trip, And stay safe on the iceroads of Norway!"
