Woman Spends Entire Month Trying to Save Dog with a Jug on His Head

People who rescue dogs are angels on earth, and a kind woman by the name of Teri Goodnight from Montgomery, Texas is no exception. When a stray dog decided to snack on some of the cat food left in an automatic jug cat food feeder on Goodnight's deck he got his head trapped.

Goodnight had been trying to save the dog for an entire month.

KBSW shared the news story and explained A stray dog looking for a bite to eat put his head into an outdoor cat feeder on Oct. 21. When he’d had his fill, there was a problem. The jug of the feeder was stuck on the his head.

Eventually Goodnight was able to trap the dog and help him.  Goodnight was quoted as saying, "I literally cried for 10 minutes after I caught him, I just broke down, started crying. I was relieved it was over,” she said.

Goodnight explained how rescuers got the container off the dog’s head.

"We took wire cutters and cut all the way around it and pulled it off of his head,” she explained."

What a scary situation and how helpless Goodnight must have felt just watching her camera footage of the poor pup wandering around with a jug on his head. There are roughly seventy million strays nationwide, according to The Humane Society of the United States, and it's pretty surprising that this doesn't happen more often.

Here's What to do if You Find a Stray Dog

If you would like to help a stray dog wandering around your own neighborhood, your best bet is to contact your local animal control or Humane Society to report the dog's breed, coloring, and its last known location. If you live in a rural area or you wish to trap the dog yourself, you can find humane dog traps that won't harm a dog or any other animals that wanders into the trap online if the dog runs away when you try to approach it. You can also use food or treats to coax a scared or skittish dog into approaching you. Check to see if the dog has an ID tag. According to the American Humane, If the pet is not wearing an ID tag, the best course of action is to either take it to your local animal shelter or call the animal control/police department to pick it up and transport it to the shelter.

A veterinarian or shelter can scan the dog for a microchip. If the owner of the dog can't be located, and you are interested in adopting the dog, you can leave your name and contact information with the shelter. Most importantly, have the pup spayed or neutered and microchipped if you give him a forever home.

We are so thankful that Jughead is now safe and sound and missing that jug on his head! Here's hoping he doesn't get into the cat food anytime again!
