Woman Returns Couch To Costco After 2.5 Years & Gets A Full Refund Without A Receipt

If you've ever had to return a piece of clothing, makeup, or even furniture, you're likely all too familiar with the stress that comes with trying to find your receipt and then hoping your purchase wasn't made over 30 days ago. Well, if you're a Costco customer, you can breathe a sigh of relief. As a new viral TikTok shows, the warehouse has a super generous return policy for furniture.
In the TikTok, which was uploaded earlier this month, Jackie Nguyen (@xojacckss) revealed that even without a receipt, she was successfully able to return a couch that was purchased at Costco two and a half years ago for a full cash refund.
Nguyen admitted that she was nervous about making the return. She said the cashier simply asked when the couch was purchased and what the reason for the return was.
"I said I just didn't like it anymore...we just don't like the color anymore. And they gave us our refund. Full refund to his card," she said.
Costco's return policy is listed online, but it's a little vague. The Costco website notes that "we guarantee your satisfaction on every product we sell with a full refund."
Additionally, there are several items that must be returned within 90 days of purchase for a full refund, including TVs, projectors, computers, cameras, touchscreen tablets, and cellphones. Other items, such as cigarettes, alcohol, and gold bars, cannot be returned.
A Reddit thread that was published in 2021 provides some additional insight into Costco's seemingly generous furniture return policy. In the comments, a person claiming to be a Costco employee explained that you have up to 10 years to return some items (they didn't specify whether a receipt is required).
"Costco employee here, have worked in returns before. Just return it, it's no problem. We accept returns up to 10 years old, no explanations needed. Biggest thing is to make sure everything that came with it is included, like any throw pillows etc," they wrote.
