Woman With Down Syndrome Makes History In Miss USA Pageant

Mikayla Holmgren made history as the first person with Down syndrome to compete in a Miss USA state beauty pageant. The 22-year-old was a contestant in the Miss Minnesota competition. She may have not captured the crown but she did win the spirit of Miss USA award and the director’s award. Mikayla received a standing ovation when she accepted the two awards. Mikayla has competed in pageants before, winning Minnesota Junior Miss Amazing. She has been dancing since age 6 and loves being onstage.
