Baseboards are a quick and fairly easy way of adding a unique touch to your walls without having to paint or totally redo your entire room. But baseboards aren't all made the same, and even something like height can really make a difference in how good they look. Luckily there is a hack, shared by Love_Margaux, that allows you to DIY your own tall baseboards in a snap.

So let us say that you, like this creator, wanted some tall baseboards as an addition to a space such as a living room. If you headed to your local hardware store you could always buy them pre-made, but that is going to cost you a pretty penny right off the bat.

Instead, make them!

For this DIY you are going to want to buy some much cheaper MDF. Besides being inexpensive, MDF board has a lot of advantages. One reason is that it has greater strength than particle board, which is constructed of compressed sawdust, and is frequently covered with a veneer to give the appearance of solid wood. It is also lighter, termite-resistant, and doesn't warp as much in humid climates. In terms of wooden house furnishings, it's a generally affordable, reliable, and low-maintenance middle ground.

Measure all of the spaces you want to add baseboard to, then cut your MDF down to fit. A good coat of paint that matches the walls will follow before you put it in place along your walls. Use a nail gun to pop the pieces into place and keep them there before caulking the top and bottom into place. One last coat of paint over everything and voila - gorgeous baseboards as tall as you want and cheaper to boot!
