Woman’s DIY to-go ketchup container is blowing minds on TikTok: ‘I needed this life hack’
If you’ve ever wished for a solution to take your dipping cup of ketchup on the go, TikToker Margaret (@peruvianmami_x2) has a solution.
In her one and only TikTok video thus far, she shared how to transform an empty ketchup holder into a lid that fits perfectly atop a full ketchup container.
According to her hashtags, Margaret was eating at In-N-Out when she employed the ketchup trick and captioned her video with the popular “I was today years old” realization.
While impressed by her technique, many of the commenters also expressed concern about the potential of germs on the counter as she smashed the paper container down flat.
“OK that’s nice but did anyone wiped that counter before you did? [That’s the] question I have,” asked @rayblue80.
However, Margaret assured her followers that she wiped the counter down so there were “no germs.”
And if wiping down the counter isn’t an option, @dsea9 also suggested smashing the container off the counter to avoid germs as well: “You could also just do it in the palm of your hand so it doesn’t touch the counter.”
Margaret’s ketchup hack post has over 1.2 million views, and commenters were both amazed at her technique and imagining other ways they could use the method as a life hack.
“So you mean to tell me that I could’ve used those to make little chef hats for my Barbie’s this whole time,” said @aymisgatos.
“And the tops of them make little chef hats for frogs,” observed @user967979551560.
Other commenters noted that they use similar methods, as ketchup is a popular source of inspiration for hacks, such as the viral arm-swing method for getting the last drops of ketchup from the bottle.
“You can also expand the cups to get more,” noted @jujubean1900.
“Lol I don’t squish it but I’ve been widening them for years!” added @dr1fterg1rl.
Some people also pointed out the irony in trying to create a container for ketchup when many restaurants offer to-go ketchup: “If only they had little sealed packets of ketchup,” noted @its_fabes.
“Or just ask for bags of ketchup? We have them behind the counter,” added @cora.taylor03.
But other commenters chimed in, explaining that some places, like In-N-Out, only offer ketchup from a pump. Others said they simply prefer to get ketchup from the pump, so her method is helpful.
“The ketchup dispenser always hit harder than the packets. I needed this life hack,” admitted @tiffscobb.
