Woman claims head 'exploded' on flight after getting popular plastic surgery procedure: 'I heard this audible pop'
A woman took to TikTok to claim that the back of her head “exploded” from the pressure during a flight a few days after undergoing plastic surgery.
The British fitness influencer, who goes by Weronika, then clarified in a comment that her stitches “ripped out” while she was on the plane — her head didn’t literally explode.

“I wouldn’t be making tiktoks would I?!” she said. “I’d be in hospital if I was even alive. Use common sense.”
In a series of storytime videos, Weronika explained that a week before her flight she underwent a canthoplasty — commonly known as “cat eye surgery” — in Turkey. The procedure tightens and lengthens the eye shape horizontally to create a more “cat eye” look. Recovery is typically minimal, though visible swelling and bruising can last for a few weeks.
The cost of the surgery in the U.K. is pretty steep compared with that in other countries, which is presumably why Weronika went to Turkey.
While on the plane, she said, everything was fine until she woke up from a nap and felt a lot of pain.
“Everything was really hurting,” she explained. “I got up, went to the toilet and like I heard this audible pop, and my heart was just like, what the hell is happening, and I was just like, ‘Oh s***.’”
Weronika said she started feeling hot liquid dripping down her neck around the stitches where the surgeon had placed a fluid drain during her surgery. Rather than take off the bandages to get a closer look, Weronika decided to stuff tissues beneath the wrappings.
“It was so gross,” she said. “I was in so much pain for the rest of the flight. It felt so hot, and all that liquid was draining into this tissue.”
Patients should wait seven to 10 days before flying after surgery, according to Dr. Jennifer Levine, a double board-certified plastic surgeon.
“From the description of the wound, it sounds like more was done than just a standard canthoplasty,” Levine told In The Know. “So sometimes it is better to wait 10 to 14 days.”
In a follow-up video, Weronika claimed her surgeon “forgot” to give her a “fit to fly” medical certificate, so she had to pay $100 for one at the airport. But even though the surgeon allegedly told her she was fine to fly, she was “imagining the worst” when she heard the pop on the plane.
“I didn’t want to have a huge gaping hole in my head,” she said.
Ultimately, Weronika said, she did get an infection where the stitches were behind her ear, but she’s in recovery now.
“It’s clearing up now and it’s all good,” she said. “I just have to be careful before it shuts.”
