Will There Be a Wizards of Waverly Place Reboot or Reunion?
From animated films being revived as live-action movies (think Disney's The Little Mermaid) to reboots of classic television shows (we still stan Gossip Girl), there's a massive wave of nostalgic entertainment making its way to the big and small screens. Fans of Disney's Wizards of Waverly Place have been making calls for a remake of the series, and more than 12 years after the show ended in 2012, the cast is finally speaking out about whether or not it could happen.
Jennifer Stone and David DeLuise, who starred in the series, discussed the possibility of the OG cast reuniting during the latest Wizards of Waverly Pod podcast episode. DeLuise, who starred as Selena Gomez's dad, Jerry Russo, in the magical series, said, "Hold on, let me call Selena [Gomez]," when answering a fan's questions about "will there be a reboot or a reunion." DeLuise said he's totally into the idea of a reboot. "The thing is, yes, of course, we want to do it," he explained. "It would be silly not to do some kind of reboot thing, and as far as I know, Selena wants to do it."
Stone, known for her role as Harper Finkle, agreed. "All of the main cast, from my understanding, for the most part, wants to do a reunion." For Jennifer, the story behind the possible reboot or reunion is what matters most. "It's just a matter of having the right story to tell and timing. 'Cause honestly, I was not kidding when I said coordinating all of us together for dinner is hard enough, much less coordinating to get us together for like a week, two weeks, to shoot a reunion."
Wizards of Waverly Place aired on Disney channel from October 2007 until January 2012. The series launched the career of Gomez, who starred as Alex Russo, a teenage wizard living in New York City, on her journey toward understanding her powers with her siblings Justin and Max, who also possessed magical abilities.
