Wisconsin Ski Area Reassures Skiers That They Still Have Snow: "A Thousand Times Yes!"

Amid apparent concerns that warm weather had melted all of its snow, Trollhaugen—a Wisconsin-based ski resort—confirmed it was still going strong earlier this week.

The resort posted aerial footage of its slopes, which showed a healthy coating of the white stuff.

WXPR, a newsgroup local to northern Wisconsin, explained that "the lack of snow and warm temperatures have created less than ideal conditions for winter sports this year" in an article published late last month.

The article noted that multiple winter events in Wisconsin, involving sports from snowmobiling to cross-country skiing, have faced alterations or cancellations amid the warm weather.

In Dresser, where Trollhaugen is located, conditions are looking springy. NOAA anticipates temperatures at or near 50 degrees through the weekend and next week.

That isn't necessarily a situation worth fretting over. This morning, Trollhaugen issued an update on Facebook, showcasing sunny skies and soft snow—sounds inviting, right?

Spring skiing—if you can ignore the fact that it's February—is one of the best types of skiing in my book. The problem arises when you start talking about longevity. If these warm temperatures keep up, Trollhaugen might be looking at an earlier-than-usual conclusion to the season.

For the time being, though, Trollhaugen's still rocking it.

Later this month, the Wisconsin resort will host a stop of the Tell A Friend Tour—an event series conjured up by professional skier Andy Parry. I'd say be there or be square, but I can't be there, so I'll say this instead: if you can go, you should, it looks like an excellent time.

And, on that note, send some cold thoughts Trollhaugen's direction. Spring skiing's fun and all, but winter isn't over yet.
