This Winter Beauty Hack From the Moncler Show Is, Well, Genius

Strolling down Via Ferrante Aporti in Milan this evening, one would have encountered a curious sight: dozens of men and women in puffer coats, despite the row of flaming torches that lined the street (not to mention the temperate 50-degree weather). Such is the madness inspired by Moncler, whose Genius project celebrated its third incarnation with a staggering Fall 2019 presentation that contained one exceptionally clever winter beauty trick.

In the fourth of several curated rooms, the ever-brilliant Simone Rocha had conjured up a haunted wood. Models silently wound their way around six rows of white birch trees, draped in quilted silks that trailed across the dirt floor. Many of them wore wool balaclavas—some cut from a flat red cable knit, others trimmed with crystals and pearls—which are inherently practical, but difficult to pull off. (Those girls who wore wide-brimmed hats had the easier time, as their waist-grazing lengths were gently teased into a fairy-like static by hairstylist Duffy.)

In a clever stroke, makeup artist Lauren Parsons gave the models bright crimson lips and topped them with gloss, which she carried up onto their lids and cheekbones to create lit-from-within skin. The final result was fresh and overtly feminine, despite that hair-obscuring hood, and an excellent way to combat seasonal pallor, whether you go for a balaclava or not.
