Winter Is Back At Vermont's Snowiest Ski Resort, Two More Feet Could Be On The Way

Yesterday afternoon, Jay Peak Resort, Vermont, shared that it was fresh off a storm cycle that had deposited 19 inches of snow since Sunday.

But the good news didn't stop there. In its Tuesday forecast, helmed by Tim Kelley, the resort announced the possible arrival of something equally exciting: two more feet of snow by the end of next weekend.

So much for spring skiing.

Kelley got into the nitty gritty with his forecast, explaining that several factors, from low pressure to upslope snow, should re-trigger the powder faucets.

His final assessment? Another 10 to 15 inches of fresh into Thursday, topped off with a bonus 8 inches as the weekend starts, totaling around two feet if everything lines up meteorologically.

That "if" is important. Like any good forecaster, Kelley made sure to cover his bases. "Well, it's not a done deal by any means," he wrote, noting the uncertainty surrounding the weekend weather patterns. "Weather guidance (our forecast computer models) have been quite squirrely with this weekend's forecast, and it's still a tough call."

Two feet of snow or not, Jay Peak is already in an enviable position with consistent coverage, below-freezing temperatures, and powdery conditions. Another large storm cycle would just be the cherry on top, inching the resort ever closer to its average winter snowfall mark of 347 inches. So far this season, Jay Peak's picked up around 300 inches.

In the meantime, you know what to do—think snow, and consider putting those hard-earned sick days to use.
