Winner of 'World's Ugliest Dog' Actually Couldn't Be More Adorable

Scooter, a 7-year-old Chinese Crested dog, was crowned the "World's Ugliest Dog" at the contest in Petaluma, Calif., where he took home the grand prize on Friday. This may be an unfortunate title for a contest, but it's actually for a really great cause.

The TikTok account for @Jcooptv posted the following video.

According to the contest website, "7 years ago, a breeder of Chinese Cresteds brought a brand-new pup to animal control in Tucson for euthanasia. The little guy had unfortunately been born with two deformed hind legs. It appeared he would never walk, let alone crawl and fight for his existence. One of our kind volunteers from Saving Animals from Euthanasia happened to be there and saw this little fellow. He knew that this pup might have a chance at finding a good home and a fairly normal life with the support of our rescue group. He brought him home with the other rescues that day."

It's so wonderful that this little baby was saved! We can't imagine him being put down.

Here's another video of Scooter that was shared on Facebook by USA Today.

People don't believe Scooter deserves the World's Ugliest Dog title, and @Carolyn comments, "Poor baby. Cute in his own way." @Linda adds, "Sorry, but I think he is adorable." @Jane adds, "That's ridiculous. All dogs are beautiful. We really don't deserve dogs." @Steve asks, "Why did we come up with this stupid contest anyway?"

It's actually a nearly 50-year-old event  that is held to show that these dogs are uniquely beautiful by celebrating "the imperfections that make all dogs special," and to advocate for adoption.

One of the judges told The New York Times: "In the cutest way possible, he kind of reminds me of a hairy hippopotamus."

Awww, he really sort of does! Congratulations Scooter!
