Windsor Castle’s Christmas Decorations Are Seriously Splendid — and You Can Visit Them in Person
The British royal family is putting all other Christmas decorations to shame.
On Monday, the family released images of the stunning holiday decor at Windsor Castle. And, with the gold drapes, the red carpet, and absolutely massive evergreen trees everywhere, it’s truly a holiday wonderland.
Visitors to the castle can see all of the decor for themselves now through Jan. 5, 2020. It includes thousands of tiny twinkling lights, massive garlands adorning the walls, and that aforementioned forest full of trees. However, the true centerpiece is the 20-foot-high Nordmann Fir Christmas tree in St George’s Hall, which is only open to the public during the winter months.
According to officials, the tree was taken from Windsor Great Park. It’s currently adorned with hundreds of iridescent glass and mirrored ornaments.
But wait, there’s more, as this year also marks the 200th anniversary of the births of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. To celebrate that milestone Windsor Castle will feature a special display of gifts exchanged between the royal couple during their many Christmases at Windsor. The special display will be held in The Octagon Dining Room. There, officials said, the dining table will be laid with “silver-gilt pieces from the spectacular Grand Service, commissioned by George IV and still used today by The Queen and her guests at State Banquets.”

If you’re in the midst of planning a visit to the castle for the holidays try and be strategic about your timing. That’s because the castle is not only hosting special events throughout the month but is even offering up private evening tours on select dates throughout December.
On this tour, guests can experience a special behind-the-ropes experience. Those tours include a celebratory glass of champagne, a copy of the Official Souvenir Guide, and a 20 percent discount at Royal Collection Trust shops.
