Wildlife Photographer Catches Moment Grizzly Bear Walks Toward Hikers at Glacier National Park

Lately, the U.S. National Parks have been making headlines due to vistors' negligence regarding wildlife encounters. One Florida man, for example, suffered a shark bite at Everglades National Park, but not every animal run-in ends so badly.

A group of hikers at Montana's Glacier National Park got the scare of a lifetime when a lone grizzly bear walked toward them on a trail. A wildlife photographer captured the moment on a now-viral video, and, thankfully--as ABC 7 News reports--everyone is just fine.

This is terrifying! We'd be frozen in fear if we saw a grizzly bear bounding toward us like in this video, but these tourists handled the situation so smoothly. Meanwhile, the photographer knew he caught a golden moment on film!

As you can see in the video, the brown bear used the same mountain trail as the human visitors. No one could get off the trail to let the huge animal pass, but the big bear thankfully changed direction at the last second. Relief doesn't even begin to describe the feeling!

Though grizzly bear encounters are not as common as black bear encounters, it's important to know what to do if you one of these animals in the wild. As the National Park Service suggests, the best thing you can do is to avoid the encounter altogether. Even if you keep an eye out, it's almost impossible to spot every bear before they spot you.

If you do come face to face with a brown bear, like a grizzly, identify yourself as a human by talking calmly and slowly waving your hands above your head. In the vast majority of cases, they will realize you're a person! Then, you'll be able to walk away safely, like all of the travellers in this video.
