Wildfire Ravaged Ski Area Debuts Stunning New Trail Map

In 2022, Sierra-at-Tahoe suffered what is now referred to as the "Caldor Fire."

The West Bowl took the worst of the fire, compared to the upper east side. The fire also spread south across the lower east side affecting areas such as lower Jack’s Bowl and Preacher’s Passion.

One run at Sierra-at-Tahoe, Sugar N Spice, became a haul route when dealing with the effects of the fire. You can see the sheer number of burnt trees below.

But there's a silver lining: a beautiful new map is on display and ready for use as we explore the safety-assessed new terrain.

For comparison, the old map is shown below. Can you spot the differences?

Officials at Sierra reminded all of us eager beavers that their "snowguns are running, chairs are spinning, and fryers are, well, ready to fry — we just need one more thing to kick it into full gear, snow!"

Couldn't have said it better myself. The ground is still bare and many mountains in the Tahoe area have one or two trails open to the public.

Sierra-at-Tahoe also spoke what's on everyone's minds. "We are one good storm away from opening Sierra-at-Tahoe for the 2023-24 winter season, but will be postponing our tentatively scheduled opening day of Dec. 2 until Mother Nature turns on the spigot."

Bummer, but completely understandable.

"Current forecasts are calling for unsettled weather Thursday-Sunday, but the estimated storm totals aren’t quite enough to supplement snow making efforts to get you sliding into the season. El Niño can be a wild card, so all eyes are on the weather, and we will be ready when the storms deliver."

"Til then, prepare for the season by checking out our new trail map with all 2,000 acres reopened including previously closed sections in Avalanche Bowl and Huckleberry Canyon! With unlocked terrain + fresh fall lines to explore, experiencing the new landscape will be worth the wait!"

Oh yes it will.
