The 'Top Gun: Maverick' actor will be MIA at the 95th Academy Awards.

Tom Cruise is sitting out the 95th Academy Awards, which are being held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, Calif. on March 12.

The Top Gun: Maverick actor, 60, will not be in attendance at the 2023 Oscars as he is overseas in the United Kingdom filming for Mission: Impossible -- Dead Reckoning Part II, according to Entertainment Tonight.

Top Gun: Maverick,
which premiered on May 27, 2022, is up for six awards including Best Picture, Writing (Adapted Screenplay), Film Editing, Sound, Music (Original Song), and Visual Effects.

In the event that the film wins Best Picture, the film's producer, Jerry Bruckheimer will accept the award. Cruise also served as a producer on the film.

While the film itself is nominated for multiple awards, Cruise was not nominated for Best Actor, and his co-star Miles Teller had some things to say about that.

While speaking with the Associated Press on March 10, Teller revealed that he believes the Oscars snubbed Cruise by not nominating him for one of the biggest awards of the night.

"I'm not saying that whoever got nominated didn't deserve to get nominated," Teller said, adding, "but when you think about everything that he's doing in that film and what I've said when I've been talking about Tom's performance in this film, we give actors so much credit in movies for performing skills, for playing instruments or singing or gaining weight and losing weight, and the skills that Tom is putting on display in Top Gun, and in so many of his movies, thats a product of, you know, thousands of hours practiced."

He continued: "I think we don't realize how much work and effort goes into that. I think a lot of the time we associate performances on screen with effort. We like to applaud effort, and I think Tom does it so seamlessly that you don't necessarily realize."

Fans can tune into ABC tonight at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET to watch the 95th Academy Awards hosted by the late-night host Jimmy Kimmel.
