Why Wasn't Blake Lively at the Met Gala?

Blake Lively’s been doing more than having lunch on the steps of the Met for over a decade now.

The actress made her Met Gala debut in 2008, when she was best-known as “S” and Lonely Boy (aka Penn Badgley) was her IRL plus-one.

In the 11 years since Lively first attended the annual ball, she’s missed only two — once in 2012 and again in 2015. In 2012, just a few months ahead of her and Ryan Reynolds’s wedding, she reportedly skipped the gala to visit her then-boyfriend’s family in Vancouver. In 2015, she sat out the event due to her work schedule — she was “shooting back-to-back movies in China and Bangkok” (presumably All I See Is You and sci-fi short Log Out).

Unfortunately (for us), Lively is skipping the 2019 fête as well. Though her reps failed to return our request for comment, we can assume her absence has something to do with the bombshell she dropped during a red carpet appearance alongside Ryan Reynolds on Thursday: she’s pregnant.

That being said, Lively made no effort to avoid the high-fashion spotlight during her last pregnancy. She was the true Princess of Cannes in an array of glamorous curve-hugging gowns in May of 2016.

And throughout the years, she's shown up to the Met Gala in some seriously stunning embellished gowns.

Fingers crossed for a show-stopping 2020 return to the Met steps that started it all.
