Why the 'Stranger Things' Cast Skipped the 2022 Emmys, Including Millie Bobby Brown and Sadie Sink

Well, here's a plot twist to tonight's Emmys: the now-grown-up kids from Stranger Things ended up not walking the red carpet or attending the show so far. Actors Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, and Gaten Matarazzo were missing from the red carpet this evening. Sadie, notably, was at the Toronto International Film Festival with Taylor Swift on September 9 and on her own September 11.

The show's teens and adults — Winona Ryder, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, David Harbour, and Maya Hawke — weren't spotted there either. Natalia was notably photographed at New York Fashion Week today, attending the Veronica Beard show:

After its massive fourth season, which was split into two volumes, Stranger Things is nominated for 13 Emmys this evening, including Outstanding Drama Series. The cast's choice to skip the show may indicate they didn't believe they were frontrunners in their categories, and they additionally had other commitments this week, whether it was at New York Fashion Week (Natalia), TIFF (Sadie), or promoting other projects. (Hawke's film Do Revenge comes out on Friday, for example.)

The Stranger Things crew is preparing for the Netflix hit’s fifth and final session, which the writing team has revealed will contain eight episodes — or so a recent tweet from the show's writers seems to confirm. In an Augest 13 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, co-showrunner Matt Duffer explained that season 5 won’t repeat season 4’s extended runtimes. “I don't think the runtimes will be as extreme in season 5,” he said. “We're trying to return to the simplicity of the structure in season 1, with bigger scale and scope.” But the season 5 finale, in particular, will be “pretty massive.” Either way, the end is nigh — we can’t seriously believe these actors are teenagers for much longer.
