"The Airwrap makes use of unique technology resembling that of jet engines to generate a vortex that draws hair towards the barrels or attachments, keeping strands firmly against their surfaces while also monitoring and regulating the heat so your hair never burns," says Justina Blakeney, hairstylist and founder of Niawigs. One of the best parts of investing in a dupe is that, most times, it costs a fraction of what the original product sells for. When you're on the hunt for the best dupe, consider the budget you're working with first. Checking for a warranty should help you narrow down your search as well, adds Ellsworth.

Reviews

Dupe or not, reviews can be incredibly helpful in choosing a quality product. Simply check the reviews section and read up on what other users have to say. If the product has little to no reviews, go on YouTube to find videos of other people testing the tool instead, says Cody Renegar, a celebrity hairstylist and master colorist.

Material

Buying a product made from the right materials can go a long way. "Make sure the product is ceramic and/or titanium," says Ellsworth. "This will give better heat distribution and be safe for those precious locks!"

Styling preferences

If you know you like to style your hair a specific way, get a product that can help you achieve that look. "Decide what your intention is," says Renegar. Our team consulted other WH editors and six hair experts including Justina Blakeney, Kevin Kelly, Jennifer Korab, Cleo Merrill, Cody Renegar, and Katelyn Ellsworth for the story.

Revlon's One Step Dryer Volumizer Plus is excellent for blow drying all types of hair, says Blakeney. "This will undoubtedly save you time, whether you're simply drying or styling your hair," she says.

It comes with four temperature settings, activated charcoal pins, and a new 2.4" oval head. Plus, the handle is sleek, and the barrel is made with ceramic titanium. "As a fan of the original Revlon One-Step, I was eager to try the plus version, and honestly, it doesn’t disappoint," says WH commerce editor Jasmine Gomez. "The results are similar to the Dominican blowouts I get almost weekly but more voluminous because of the wide brush head."

She notes that the bristles were a bit hard for her sensitive hair, which is prone to breakage. Additionally, she believes it works well on coarse hair and can be used as a touch up tool for those who swear by the salon.

The Double Shot Blow-Dryer Brush

Another one-step brush recommended by many stylists, this tool by Drybar delivers super shiny, voluminous hair in less time than your standard dryer and round brush combo. It's ergonomic and lightweight to help you stay comfortable while styling. This brush can also be used on all hair types, and it's great for eliminating frizz. Not to mention that the yellow design is super bold and modern.

"The smaller paddle is perfect for a bouncy blowout because you can easily wrap your hair around it in a way that creates those signature blowout waves versus how your hair might look when using a flat iron," explains WH lifestyle director Lindsay Geller. She adds that this tool seems to protect her hair from heat damage more than other brands she's tested in the past.

AireBrush Duo Interchangeable Hot Air Blow Dry Brush

You might not get quite as many attachments with this purchase, says professional hairstylist Kevin Kelly, but the two brushes you get work hard to deliver different styles. The round brush adds volume, while the flat one gives you super sleek and shiny strands.

With five heat and three speed settings to choose from, you'll have up to 15 different styling combinations. Side note: Testers agree that this product works best once your hair is about 80 percent dry, so make sure to wait a few minutes before combing it through.

"I liked that it frees up a hand and allows for easy styling in a way that a round brush and blow dryer doesn't," says WH assistant social media editor Isabel McMahon. "The round brush attachment is also a great, medium-sized barrel that creates a sleek and bouncy blowout." She adds that while she loved the final look, it took a while to dry her thick, wavy hair. It also may not be the best fit for those who prefer a more textured and tighter bristle brush when doing blowouts. Overall, McMahon recommends this tool for anyone with thin or short hair looking for a beginner-friendly option.

HD430 FlexStyle Air Styling & Drying System

If you want a dryer that's compact, you'll love this drying system from Shark. This one comes with five different attachments, including two brushes, auto-wrap curlers, and a paddle brush. In fact, testers say the removable brush heads make this tool travel-friendly. It was also designed to self-regulate its heat levels to prevent heat damage down the line.

"The price is not as steep as the Dyson, but Shark uses quality materials," says Katelyn Ellsworth, hairstylist and owner of The Roslyn salon in San Diego, CA. "It also has all of the versatile attachments that work great for creating a lasting style." BTW, some users say this tool works quickly by cutting their styling time down by an extra 15 to 20 minutes.

HyperAIR Fast-Drying Hair Blow Dryer

Testers agree that Shark's dryer is one of the closest things you can get to the Dyson Airwrap, but you'll pay the price for it. The smart hair dryer comes with an IQ styling concentrator to dry hair quickly while making your styling process easier. The HyperAIR also automatically adjusts and optimizes heat and airflow settings based on how you’re styling. And if you're worried about maintenance, just know that this one comes with a small brush to clean hard-to-reach areas.

Some users say their thick hair dries with 15 minutes using the Shark. Others feel that it also does a good job at keeping frizz at bay. Meanwhile, a few testers found the blow dryer to be a bit too heavy for them.

INFINITIPRO

"My clients can achieve a similar look with a large curling iron or wand—a 1.5 to two-inch barrel," says hairstylist Cleo Merrill. With a 1.5 and 2 inch brush, Conair's Infinitipro styling tool is just right. While one attachment helps you achieve defined curls, the other gives you major volume.

This styler has two heat settings: one for thick hair and one for thinner hair. It also uses concentrated ions to add shine, reduce frizz, and prevent knots. Testers love how often they can switch up their looks thanks to the different attachments. They also appreciate that this is one of the more budget-friendly dupes on the market that delivers quality results.

5-in-1 Electric Hair Dryer Brush

For just under $40, this dupe comes with five attachments at a price that won't hurt your wallet. This one uses negative ionic technology to help smooth flyaways and reduce frizz. From tight curls to loose waves, you can do it all while minimizing damage and breakage. Ellsworth loves that you can get multiple uses and styles out of it for a relatively low cost.

If you're worried about heat damage, you can style without stress knowing you can pick from three temperature settings. Testers say the multiple heating levels make this a great choice for all hair types. They also point out that this tool comes with the same attachments as the Dyson, making it extremely versatile.

Airwrap Multi-Styler

If you thought you were open to dupes but realized you just couldn't replace the real thing, the OG is up for grabs. While it's on the pricey side, it's definitely worth the splurge. It comes with seven accessories, multiple functions, three heat levels, and a cold shot. And just in case you were wondering, yes, it's beginner-friendly.
