Selena Gomez has her hand in some television work—specifically Netflix's 13 Reasons Why, which she executive produces—but the actress isn't at tonight's Emmy Awards. 13 Reasons Why didn't get any nominations this year. And while Gomez could attend an after party (specifically the Netflix after party, should the streaming giant have one), Gomez has only attended the Creative Arts Emmys once in 2009, but has never been to the regular Emmys.

Gomez has had a relatively low-key summer. She spent her last weekend on the East Coast in Boston. The star attended McLean Hospital's annual dinner there, where she was honored for her work destigmatizing the discussion around mental health. She gave the keynote speech there.

And while Gomez did appear in one movie this year—The Dead Don't Die—her upcoming work is music-focused. Sources teased to E! and Entertainment Tonight this summer that Gomez will be releasing new, personal work at the end of this year and next year.

"Selena has been working on new music and plans to release some this year. The new music is going to be a different side of Selena and very personal," Entertainment Tonight's source said in July. "Selena has gone through a lot over the years and is ready to share it with the world."

Gomez herself has assured fans that she really is releasing new music soon. She shared multiple Instagram Stories of herself in the studio. "Just so you know, I see your comments, and I'm working on it..." she captioned one studio image, adding a rainbow emoji at the end.
