Why Priyanka Chopra Wasn't at Husband Nick Jonas's 'SNL' Hosting Debut

On Saturday night, Nick Jonas made his Saturday Night Live hosting debut as a hybrid host and musical guest. His brother Kevin was in the audience (of course they did a bit where Kevin asked if the Jonas Brothers were still together). There was someone noticeably missing from the audience last night: Nick's wife, Priyanka Chopra.
In normal, non-pandemic times, Chopra probably would have been there, no questions asked. Right now, Chopra has been working on several TV and film projects in London, which is currently on lockdown because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
SNL hosts spend the week before the show preparing with the cast, and last week, Chopra sent her husband a thoughtful gift for the days ahead. "My wife surprised me (all the way from London) with this today," he wrote. "🚀👩🚀😍 thank you @priyankachopra you’re the best. SNL here we come!"
Chopra has had a big month. On Feb. 9, she released her autobiography, Unfinished.
"I was approaching 20 years of being in the entertainment industry and it was something I personally wanted to acknowledge," she told ELLE.com of the book. "I also realized that I was at a place where I was self-assured enough to look introspectively into my life—something I wasn’t capable of at the time these things were happening."
She also spoke to ELLE about a period in her life, when her show Quantico was wrapping up and she was dealing with the end of a relationship. She described that period as "a long sigh of sadness, a sort of pause on life that lasted three years."
She said there was one moment of brightness during this period of time: "It was when I met Nick, even if it was very briefly."
Jonas and Chopra have been married since December 2018. Although they've been spending time apart lately because of work and the pandemic, they always seem to send thoughtful gifts to remind each other of their love and support. They spent Valentine's Day apart this year, but Jonas sent Chopra many, many roses. Chopra returned the favor with an "I ❤️ U" in candles.
