Why Priyanka Chopra Had Doubts About Dating Nick Jonas

Chopra wasn't bitten by the 'Lovebug' at first.

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas may be one of Hollywood's top couples, but they almost didn't get together.

During an appearance on Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast, Chopra opened up about the early stages of her courtship with Jonas, revealing that she wasn't initially interested in pursuing anything romantic.

"I didn't want to engage much at that time," she recalled of Jonas reaching out after their initial 2016 introduction. "I was 35 and Nick was 25. I really put a stop on it in a way because I judged a book by the cover. I was like, 'I want to settle down. I've done the fun dating thing.'"

In fact, it took a minute for Chopra to realize that Jonas was actually her perfect match. "I was ready to get serious," she continued, "and not realizing that my husband is a 70-year-old man stuck in a 30-year-old's body."

Apparently, it was their time at the 2017 Met Gala that first solidified their connection. "I was so grateful I had Nick," she recounted of the major red carpet. "We go onto the carpet, he'd adjust my dress. He was a complete gentleman. And he steps aside so I get a moment, and then he met people he knew. The carpet was over, he had taken care of me and he kind of walked away."

However, the duo didn't have their first proper date until 2018, which resulted in Jonas inviting Chopra to see him work in the studio. "I think I fell in love with him the first time I saw him in the studio," she added. "It was after our first date."

She continued, "My knees buckled. We had a nice date that night."

The pair certainly had a whirlwind romance, getting engaged in July 2018. By December, the two were married, celebrating their love in two different wedding ceremonies.

Chopra and Jonas later welcomed daughter Malti Marie via surrogacy in 2022.
