From Town & Country

Princess Beatrice is known for her love of eccentric headwear.

Her blush-colored, bow-themed fascinator at Prince William and Kate Middleton's 2011 wedding launched 1,000 memes. Milliner Philip Treacy even feared his "head on a spike outside the Tower of London," after the backlash to his design, he said. "But it was a very modern hat and modernity is always unusual things."

And who could forget her colorful butterfly headpiece at Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly's' 2008 wedding?

She toned it down a bit at Harry and Meghan's nuptials earlier this year, wearing more of a decorative headband by Stephen Jones to go with her dress by Roksanda Ilincic:

And now, for her sister's wedding, she's chosen a sleek headband in a deep purple that matches her maid of honor dress. It was actually something of an unusual choice, as royal tradition would dictate that she not wear a headpiece. Before today's events, we spoke with expert and founder of Beaumont Etiquette, Myka Meier about whether she thought Beatrice would wear a hat.

"I do not expect Beatrice to wear a hat," she said. "Traditionally British and royal wedding party members do not wear hats. Often children on the wedding party wear floral crowns."

While Meghan did not have a maid of honor, her young bridesmaids did indeed wear flower crowns. And back in 2011, Pippa Middleton wore some flowers in her hair as an adornment, but she did not wear a hat.

In addition to supporting her sister as she walks down the aisle, Beatrice will also give a reading at today's royal wedding, a selection from F. Scott Fitzgerald's iconic novel, The Great Gatsby. Read the excerpt in full here.
