After a summer spent exploring the beaches of Mustique, cheering on his dad, Prince William, during a polo match, and yucking it up in the Buckingham Palace balcony with his second cousin Savannah Phillips, Prince George is finally heading back to school.

Today is the first day of classes at Thomas's Battersea in London, but unlike last year, Kensington Palace has not released a photo of Prince George to mark the occasion.

As Hello!'s royal correspondent Emily Nash explained, "Prince George's time at school is private and although the Duke and Duchess shared an image from his first day at primary school last year, they won't do it every year."

Last September, photographers captured the future king as he arrived at the school looking rather worried about the whole situation in his adorable new uniform.

But later on, George gave Getty's resident royal photographer Chris Jackson a big smile for an official portrait.

No longer in the youngest grade of the school, Prince George starts "Year 1" today. As the Thomas's Battersea curriculum guide explains, "Year 1 sees the beginning of a more formalized learning program. Children in Year 1 become increasingly independent and confident and begin to relish the opportunity to tackle new challenges presented to them across the broad curriculum."

It also includes a little bit of homework. But fortunately for George he still has a friend in his class, his somewhat distant cousin Maud Windsor, who is the granddaughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.
