Prince William and Kate Middleton are celebrating their 10-year anniversary today, and Kensington Palace dropped two sweet new pics to celebrate. (Also, Kate debuted a brand new $12,000 diamond necklace that everyone thinks was a gift from Wills, just saying.)

ANYWAY, while Kate was wearing all kinds of sparkly jewelry, you may have noticed that Prince William was not wearing a wedding ring for the shoot. But no need to read into it: this is fully normal for William, and is simply a matter of personal preference.

As an aide told reporter Rebecca English around the royal wedding, "It was something the couple discussed but Prince William isn't one for jewelry—he doesn't even wear a signet ring—and decided he didn't want to. It really is just down to personal preference."

Said aide also noted that Kate was completely fine with William's decision, explaining, "It is quite common for men in that strata of society not to wear a traditional wedding band. If they do, they tend to wear it with their family signet ring but William doesn't have one of those."

Meanwhile, Imagining Diana author Diane Clehane, says “William and Kate have shown us they are modern royals and are confident in each other’s love for one another. Kate omitted the word ‘obey’ in her wedding vows, and William has opted not to wear a ring, which makes them like many millennial couples—intent on doing things their way.”

So yeah, William hasn't been wearing a ring this entire time. Kate, however was given a ring by William during their wedding ceremony—and you can watch the moment go down here if you're bored and feel the need to take a deep dive in to ten-year-old royal wedding content, which I certainly do:
