Why Prince Philip May Skip Princess Eugenie's Wedding

Prince Philip may have officially retired from his royal duties in April following his hip replacement operation, but he still manages to make an appearance every once in a while to family events, including grandson Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding.

Though, with another royal wedding on the horizon this fall, the prince may end up skipping the occasion all together. When his granddaughter Princess Eugenie walks down the aisle to wed Jack Brooksbank at Windsor Castle's St. George's Chapel—the same place Harry and Meghan got married—it's a good possibility he won't join the celebration, according to sources.

Why would you attend one grandchild's wedding and not another's you may ask? Well, it goes back to family drama that stems from the '90s. Philip apparently has been on not-so-good terms with Eugenie's mother Sarah Ferguson since she separated from Prince Andrew in 1992.

“He does what he wants,” said a royal insider to People. “He made a supreme effort for Harry. I would be very surprised if he did go, because he is so estranged from Fergie. I think he will decide at the 99th hour.”

In addition to Harry and Meghan's wedding, Philip has also joined his wife, Queen Elizabeth, at several polo matches over the summer. He even flew 190-miles to Romsey, in Hampshire, for a christening ceremony of a relative he has become godfather to on the Mountbatten side of his family.

Confirmed guests at Eugenie's wedding will include Princess Charlotte and Prince George, who have official roles as flower girl and page boy respectively. We're assuming their parents Kate Middleton and Prince William will be in the pews, as well.

We'll be keeping an eye out for Philip and the Queen on Eugenie's big day on October 12.
