Why Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande Skipped the 2018 Emmys

If we had to guess, we'd say the audience of the 2018 Emmys could arguably have been 50 percent Saturday Night Live cast members and alumni, but there was a notable absence: Pete Davidson.

The actor and his high-profile fiancée, Ariana Grande, weren't anywhere to be found during the award show, despite the fact that SNL was nominated 21 times and they each had seats held for them in the days leading up to the Emmy Awards.

The singer's rep stepped in to explain their absence, noting that under the circumstances, it was more important for them to take some time away from the spotlight.

“Contrary to reports, Ariana will not be attending the Emmys tonight,” her team told People. “Pete has also opted to not attend to be with her in New York.”

It does make sense. The show happened only 10 days after the untimely death of Grande's ex-boyfriend and friend Mac Miller, who was 26, and she's only just made a return to social media after a brief hiatus.

“Given the events of the past couple of years, Ariana is going to take some much needed time to heal and mend,” her team added. “She will be staying close to home and using this period to spend time with her loved ones and work on new music without deadline. She thanks her fans for their understanding.”

It's good to hear that she's taking care of herself — and that Davidson's by her side.
