Not long ago, Yellowstone fans had nothing to do but wait. The season 4 release date couldn't come soon enough, and viewers got seriously impatient. But now season 4 is halfway over (say it ain't so) and two spinoffs are in the works. We'll have to wait a bit longer to see what happens in 6666, but 1883 will be here in a matter of days.

The prequel, which premieres on December 19, will follow the origin story of the Dutton family. According to Paramount+, "1883 follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land–Montana."

The action-packed trailer shows the all-star cast of Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Sam Elliott, and Billy Bob Thornton all in their period costumes. The intense video is 2:05 of shootouts, horses, wagon trains, and even a little romance: In other words, everything you could hope for in a Western. It looks to carry on the Yellowstone themes of family and loyalty, with Tim McGraw's character James Dutton telling his wife, "I believe in you, and I believe in that boy, and I believe in our daughter. And that's all."

And fans are beside themselves with excitement.

One wrote, "Omg I love @faithhill and @thetimmcgraw ! ❤️❤️ and yes Sam Elliott too!" and another proclaimed, "Man, that show already looks like an instant classic. Right up there with Yellowstone, and it hasn't even aired yet. Man o man." Another Yellowstone fan can't contain herself: "Tim McGraw and Sam freaking Elliott in a prequel?!? I’m sweating, bless whomever has done this magical thing to heal the world!"

One viewer even made this bold prediction: "Oh man I think this just might be better than Yellowstone! But just because it's based in the wild west time-line, with cowboys and indians & outlaws 1883 the wild west & frontier 🔥."

Of course, some fans who are reluctant to sign up for another streaming service are disappointed that this new show will be on Paramount+ rather than Paramount Network like Yellowstone. The first episode will air on Paramount Network following the December 19 episode of Yellowstone, and episode 2 will air on Paramount Network following the December 26 episode of Yellowstone (the rest will air exclusively on Paramount+), so you can try it out before you commit to Paramount+. We're willing to bet we're going to be hooked!
