Here’s Why Millie Bobby Brown Wasn’t at the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards

Hi guys! So another milestone in my life. I've never actually broken a bone, except for now. I have split my kneecaps, so I, from the doctor's orders, he told me rest up, and that means that I won't be attending the MTV Awards this weekend. But I hope Gaten, Caleb, Finn, Sadie, and Noah have the best time, and I love them so dearly. So, I wish you guys the best, and I'm sending my luck with you, and I'll be there in spirit. Love you guys so much, and peace out. Yeah, I mean, she slipped on an edge of something and her kneecap just split. Yeah, it sounds really painful. But I mean we've sent her a lot of videos and get well cards and I hope she's doing well. She's getting better. She hurt her knee, but she's gonna get better in a few weeks or something. She'll be fine, she's super tough. She seems to be recovering fine. I talked to her, I have talked to her several times. She says she feels fine, it's been healing. Everything's going okay, she just wishes she could here.

In 2017, Millie Bobby Brown made a political statement when she hit the red carpet at the MTV Movie & TV Awards, wearing pins in support of both the American Civil Liberties Union and the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. It was a bold move for the 14-year-old star, and we expected her to return with an equally bold message this year.

Sadly for Stranger Things fans everywhere, Brown was nowhere to be seen at Monday’s show, where both she and her co-stars were in the running for several awards including Best Show, Best Kiss, Most Frightened Performance, Best On-Screen Team, Scene Stealer, and Best Performance in a Show—the latter of which went to Brown.

So why wasn’t she there? Was it because she was covering from the online hate she recently experienced? Nah. Brown, who received her award via video, she offered an explanation on Instagram: “So, another milestone in my life. I’ve never actually broken a bone, except for now. I have split my kneecaps, so I, from the doctor’s orders, he told me to rest up, and that means that I won’t be attending the MTV Awards this weekend,” she said in an Instagram, wishing her co-stars Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, and Gaten Matarazzo the best time.

During the show, Brown spoke to the audience via video, saying, “It’s no secret that landing the role of Eleven on Stranger Things has changed my life in remarkable ways." She also addressed online bullying, the reason for which she recently quit Twitter. "There should be no space in this world for bullying and I’m not going to tolerate it and neither should any of you," she said, encouraging those in need to reach out to her on Instagram.

Obviously, her castmates supported her as she recovers from the injury. “She slipped on an edge of something and her kneecap just split. Yeah, it sounds really painful. But, I mean, we’ve sent her a lot of videos and get-well cards and I hope she’s doing well,” Schnapp said on the red carpet in the video above, with Sink adding “she’s super tough” and Matarazzo sharing that “she just wishes she could be here.”

Legit excuse, Millie.
