Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle aren't feuding, but they're not best friends forever either, Us Weekly is reporting—which is a lot like most sisters-in-law. A source told the outlet that the duchesses "will never be best friends, but they’re civil.” This is simply because the two have had very different life experiences. They are “from two totally different worlds,” the source said. Still, things are good between them.

A second source made it clear Kate and Meghan are warm; just because they aren't besties doesn't mean they're at war. The Duchess of Sussex is kind to all her in-laws. Meghan “has been nothing but warm and polite to everyone in Harry’s family,” that source said.

Back in July, ELLE.com was told by a source that Kate was extremely supportive of Meghan throughout her pregnancy. Meghan and Prince Harry welcoming their son Archie helped the two women bond. “Catherine and Meghan enjoy seeing each other, and motherhood has definitely brought them closer together,” a source said.

The two purposely arranged to attend the Ladies' Singles final together because they wanted the world to see their relationship. “Kate and Meghan had always planned to attend the final together," a source told ELLE.com at the time. "Not only is it something that they enjoy, it’s also a chance to remind people that the tabloid stories about their relationship have been wide of the mark."

People reported earlier this summer that Kate and Meghan were initially affected by the world's hope they'd become super-close. “There was undue pressure where the whole world wanted them to be best friends,” an insider told us.

But things really have been getting better, especially since Meghan and Harry moved from Kensington Palace, where Kate and Prince William reside, to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor. The physical distance in work and residence have improved the two's relationship: Frogmore is about an hour away from Kensington, meaning the couples also no longer share a staff.

The separation is “allowing them more time to be like family” rather than colleagues, a royal source told People. “There is a sense of [Meghan and Kate’s] relationship strengthening.”
