From Town & Country

Fun fact: women in the royal family are rarely seen without a clutch or purse of some sort, and if you look carefully you'll notice that they typically hold bags in their left hand. For example, here's our girl Meghan Markle at a recent royal engagement in Birkenhead:

So, what's up with the left hand trend? According to royal expert Myka Meier of Beaumont Etiquette (who was trained by a former member of The Queen's Household!) there's a simple reason: royal etiquette. If you think about it, holding a bag in the left hand leaves the right hand free for greeting members of the public!

As she puts it, "When entering a room or event, handbags or briefcases are held in the left hand so that your right hand stays open to meet, greet and shake hands! Prince Charles does this too!"
