Why Meghan Markle Isn't Wearing Her Engagement Ring

As Meghan Markle and Prince Harry cheer on competitors at the 2023 Invictus Games, eagle-eyed royal fans have noticed Meghan is without a meaningful accessory: Her engagement ring.

When Prince Harry proposed to Meghan in 2017 at Kensington Palace, he gave her a three-stone diamond ring, using two smaller stones from Princess Diana's jewelry collection and a larger one sourced from Botswana.

The initial ring was on a yellow gold band. As Harry said in their engagement interview, "The ring is obviously yellow gold because that's [Meghan's] favorite and the main stone itself I sourced from Botswana and the little diamonds either side are from my mother's jewelry collection, to make sure that she's with us on this crazy journey together." In 2019, following the birth of their eldest, Prince Archie, Meghan's engagement ring was reset on a thin micro-pavé band.

Recently, however, a setting came loose on her ring and it is being serviced, per People, which is why Meghan hasn't been wearing it in Düsseldorf for the Invictus Games. Last month, while out to lunch with her friends Cleo Wade and Kadi Lee, she was also spotted without it, and Page Six reported at the time the ring was being fixed. However, Meghan has been wearing her wedding ring, and an eternity band designed by Lorraine Schwartz that Harry gifted her in 2019. In addition, Meghan has also been sporting a pinky ring at some of the events.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be at the Invictus Games through Saturday, when the closing ceremonies are held.
