Why Meghan Markle Always Wears Shoes That Don't Fit Her

Meghan Markle, the newly minted Duchess of Sussex, is already making a name for herself as a highly fashionable member of the royal family. But there’s one tiny detail in her wardrobe that has left many of her fans scratching their heads, and it all comes down to her feet.

You see, Meghan is always spotted at major events wearing shoes that appear to be a size too big for her delicate royal feet. But, according to one expert, that look is entirely on purpose.

"Celebs often go a size up, or even two, in the shoe department when they're at an event or on the red carpet and it's for one reason we can all relate to — to avoid blisters,” fashion expert Harriet Davey recently told The Sun.

He added: "There's nothing worse than uncomfortable shoes (we've all been there on a night out) and when celebs like Meghan are wearing heels for a long period of time their feet can often swell up. The swelling can cause blisters and in the long run bunions — like long-time heel fan Victoria Beckham has been rumored to suffer with."

According to Davey, the duchess, along with others who want to follow this same fashion trick, simply need to stuff the toe of their shoe with a bit of tissue, cotton, or wool to stop the shoes from slipping off. And the wearer can always remove the tissue if they need a bit more room for their tootsies.

Moreover, Meghan isn’t the only royal to employee a genius shoe trick. It turns out her sister-in-law Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, also uses sticky pads that adhere to the bottom of her tights to ensure her heels never slip or slide when she’s out and about for events.

“You never see a royal without their nude stockings. Meghan, from what I can see from the engagement photographs, it doesn't look like she was wearing tights or stockings,” royal reporter Victoria Arbiter noted to Insider. "I would say that's really the only hard, steadfast rule in terms of what the Queen requires."

And, because she simply has to, it’s rumored that Kate often purchases the John Lewis “Barely There Non-Slip Tights,” which come with the no-slide Lycra bottoms and cost just $7. So why not live like a stylish yet comfy princess and pick up a pair too?
