Here’s Why Mandy Moore Didn’t Want a Big Engagement Ring

Paris Hilton and Cardi B may be all about their bold engagement rings (check out Hilton’s 20-carat stunner!), but for This Is Us star Mandy Moore, bigger didn’t equate to better.

As the actress, who debuted her dainty Irene Neuwirth rock on the red carpet this past September, explained to InStyle, she simply is not a huge jewelry gal. “I’ve never been someone who wears a lot of jewelry,” Moore said. “It’s fun to get dressed up and wear gorgeous pieces for work, but in my real life, I usually just put on a pair of studs.”

It was for that reason that the 47 Meters Down star told fiancé Taylor Goldsmith that she didn’t want a huge rock, with the two planning to pick out some simple bands together.

Instead, Goldsmith surprised her with a totally understated gem that was pure Mandy. “[He] picked out every detail he thought I’d like, from the round, faceted stone to the rose gold band. It is so me,” she dished. I especially love that the diamond is flat. You can see my skin through it, which makes it even more understated.”

The musician’s instincts paid off: As Moore, 33, gushed, “Even though I thought I didn’t want an engagement ring, as soon as I saw this one, I couldn’t imagine the moment without it.”
