Why Lizzo Called out Tiktok for Removing Her Bathing Suit Videos

UPDATE 3/5 at 3:30 p.m.: A spokesperson for TikTok tells InStyle the platform that the removal of the now-restored video had nothing to do with Lizzo's body type, and that the video initially appeared not to adhere to community guidelines because she was flashing her underwear. However, after TikTok reviewed the video and saw she was wearing a swimsuit, it was put back up on her page.

Lizzo has a question for TikTok.

In a video posted to the social media platform, the pop star wrote in text overlay on the screen, "TikTok keeps taking down my videos with me in my bathing suits. But allows other videos with girls in bathing suits. I wonder why? TikTok we need to talk."

According to People, TikTok seemingly removed some of her viral swimsuit clips. It's unclear why the platform would do so — its guidelines only prohibit explicit nudity, and anyone who's given TikTok a cursory glance can tell you videos with women in swimsuits aren't exactly a rarity on the platform.

In the past, the platform has apparently censored posts from LGBTQ+ people, disabled people, and fat people, in what they said was a temporary fix to address bullying. Though she didn't explicitly say TikTok removed her videos because of her body, Lizzo has been an advocate for body positivity and it was implied. Representatives TikTok did not immediately respond to InStyle's request for comment.

For now, thankfully, Lizzo's swimsuit videos and photos can live on via her Instagram.
